We thought it would be interesting to include some Internet sources that discuss diabetes goal setting and diabetes self-management. If anyone is aware of other interesting articles or studies, please let us know so we can include them as well. A Google search produced several results; we chose 3 articles and 4 scientific studies to list below.
The articles discuss diabetes goal setting and make general recommendations. (We recommend that you and your health care professionals together determine your specific goals based on your individual situation.)
The studies were a more complex read and basically suggest that setting goals lead to better numbers. In most disciplines those who set goals have a better chance of achieving goals than those who don't, so I suspected that it would be no different with diabetes goal setting, but it's good to have the studies to back up suspicions. (One of the study links is an Abstract. We are trying to get permission to show the full text.)
